Reading Time Calculator
Find out how long the book you’re reading will take to finish. Enter its length, your page and how fast you read to see the time left, the days it will take at your daily pace, and the date you’d likely finish.
Time left
– h – m
Enter the book’s length and the page you’re on. You’ll see how long it has left, how many days that is, and when you’d finish.
You’ve finished it.
Nothing left to read. Time for the next one.
Time left
- likely finish
- to finish in a week
This uses a speed you guessed. ReadList learns your real pace from your reading sessions, so the estimate on your book updates itself.
Free, through Apple’s TestFlight app. Your library carries over to the App Store release.
ReadList is on iPhone first. Leave your email and we’ll tell you the day it’s ready for Android.
How it works
How the estimate is calculated
Reading time left is the number of pages you have left divided by how many pages you read in an hour. Days to finish divides that time by the minutes you read each day, rounded up.
Time left=(book length − current page)÷pages per hour
(412 − 187)÷40=5.6 hours≈5 h 38 m
338 min÷30 min a day=12 days
Find your own pace
- Note your page, then read normally for 20 minutes.
- Count the pages you read.
- Multiply by three. That’s your pages per hour for this book.
Pace changes from book to book, and often within one. A single timed stretch is a reasonable start; an average over several sessions is better.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to read a 300-page book?
At 40 pages an hour, about 7 h 30 m. At 30 minutes a day that’s 15 days; at an hour a day, 8.
Does it work for ebooks and audiobooks?
For ebooks, use the page count your app shows, or switch to percentages: 100 “pages” and your current percent. For audiobooks, the remaining listening time is already your answer.
Why is my estimate different from my e-reader’s?
E-readers measure your speed as you turn pages in that book. This calculator uses the speed you choose, so it’s only as accurate as that number.
How does ReadList estimate reading time?
ReadList times your reading sessions and compares them with your page updates, so it knows your pace for each book. Estimates are always labelled as estimates.
