Reading tools
Small calculators for the questions readers ask: how long a book or audiobook will take, how much to read a day, what a goal for the year asks of you, and how long that to-read pile really is. Free, no sign-up, and the maths is shown on every page.
For the book you’re reading
Time left, pages a day, how far through you are, and how long an audiobook will take.
-
Reading time calculator
How long the book you’re reading has left, how many days that is, and when you’d likely finish.
-
Pages per day calculator
How many pages a day will finish a book by the date you choose: a book club, a library due date, a trip.
-
Book progress calculator
How far through a book you are, as a percentage and in pages left.
-

How long an audiobook takes at the speed you listen, and when you’d finish at your usual listening time a day.

Your goal for the year, the pile waiting on your shelf, and the books still ahead of you.
-
Reading goal calculator
What your goal for the year asks of you from today: books a month, pages a day, and how you compare with an even pace.
-
TBR pile calculator
How long your to-be-read pile would take at the pace you read, and what it would take to bring it down.
-
Books in a lifetime calculator
Roughly how many books are ahead of you at the pace you read, and what a few more minutes a day would add.
A note on estimates
Why these are estimates
Every tool here starts from a pace you choose: an average for a typical book, not yours. Real reading speeds vary from reader to reader, from book to book, and from one evening to the next, so treat each answer as a sensible starting point.
- The method is shown on each page, so you can check it or do it by hand.
- The calculations run in your browser; there’s nothing to sign up for.
- Estimates are labelled as estimates, here and in the app.
ReadList learns your pace. Time your reading sessions in ReadList and it works out your pace for each book, so the time left, the finish date and your goal all update from how you actually read.
Free, through Apple’s TestFlight app. Your library carries over to the App Store release.
ReadList is on iPhone first. Leave your email and we’ll tell you the day it’s ready for Android.
